Miss Sierra Leone USA Attends Athens of West Africa Pre-Launching and Fundraising Reception

Hello world!!!
I hope you and yours are doing well. I've been doing great, staying busy with my studies. This past Friday, I attended the Athens of West Africa Pre-Launching and Fundraising Reception for the viewing of "The Athens of West Africa - Fourah Bay College: A Call for Restoration" documentary. The event was organized by Team Athens, American University Student Organization for African Studies (SOFAS), the Republic of Sierra Leone Embassy in the US, and the Fourah Bay College - Alumni Association of North America.

This event was designed to raise money to support the production of the documentary film which explores and showcases the rich and vibrant history of Fourah Bay College (University of Sierra Leone), alumni experiences, and also, give the world a bird's eye view into some of the distinguished products of Fourah Bay College. I enjoyed watching the documentary and commend the production on a job well done.

During my speech at the event, I spoke about my personal platform as Miss Sierra Leone USA, SHERO, and my advocacy for affordable and accessible education for all. Having aunts, uncles, and lots of family members that attended this prestigious university, I understand the relevance of a university such as FBC and its impact of Sierra Leonean, African, and worldwide scholars. This university has a rich history and I highly support this cause. I recommend everyone to see this documentary film in upcoming premieres in their nearest city, state, or country.

It was a joy meeting them, chatting, and reflecting on our similar and different experiences at our alma mater. I love seeing my fellow Murraydeenians!

Miss Sierra Leone USA Attends Afrikana Ball 2013

Hello world!!!
I hope you and yours are doing well. I have been very busy with my studies, and happily doing it all! Two Saturdays ago, I attended the Inaugural Afrikana Ball by One Africa in Washington, D.C. According to Mr. Paul Bangura (creator of Afrikana Ball), "the purpose of the Afrikana Ball is to celebrate everything beautiful and wonderous about being African and/or associated with Mama Africa, especially her people and their wares." Afrikana is the krio term for an African outfit.

It was an event full of culture, glamour, and African elegance. Through my eyes, I saw this event as a celebration of African beauty and diversity at its best. I had a great time, and loved seeing familiar faces, as well as meeting new people. I especially enjoyed so many people that have been following my journey as Miss Sierra Leone USA so far via social networks, and was grateful to have been able to put a face to these names.

Issa (Afrikana Ball 2013 Guest) with Miss Sierra Leone USA
One of the interesting moments I had at the Afrikana Ball was meeting Issa. He was such a gentleman from the moment I arrived, walked me inside the hall, took care of my jacket, and helped me to my seating area. I was very grateful for his kind gestures, and he requested that all he wanted was to get a picture with me, which explains the photo above. Thank you Issa for giving assistance to your Miss Sierra Leone USA that evening.
