Miss Sierra Leone USA Attends Afrikana Ball 2013

Hello world!!!
I hope you and yours are doing well. I have been very busy with my studies, and happily doing it all! Two Saturdays ago, I attended the Inaugural Afrikana Ball by One Africa in Washington, D.C. According to Mr. Paul Bangura (creator of Afrikana Ball), "the purpose of the Afrikana Ball is to celebrate everything beautiful and wonderous about being African and/or associated with Mama Africa, especially her people and their wares." Afrikana is the krio term for an African outfit.

It was an event full of culture, glamour, and African elegance. Through my eyes, I saw this event as a celebration of African beauty and diversity at its best. I had a great time, and loved seeing familiar faces, as well as meeting new people. I especially enjoyed so many people that have been following my journey as Miss Sierra Leone USA so far via social networks, and was grateful to have been able to put a face to these names.

Issa (Afrikana Ball 2013 Guest) with Miss Sierra Leone USA
One of the interesting moments I had at the Afrikana Ball was meeting Issa. He was such a gentleman from the moment I arrived, walked me inside the hall, took care of my jacket, and helped me to my seating area. I was very grateful for his kind gestures, and he requested that all he wanted was to get a picture with me, which explains the photo above. Thank you Issa for giving assistance to your Miss Sierra Leone USA that evening.
